Celebrate the Messy Life!
Ronald let me paint. It was just the shed floor, but still.
The first hour or so, I did a really good job of keeping everything within bounds. Even my good shoes stayed clean! Of course, I shoulda put on my old shoes to begin with!
The second half of the process ended up a wee bit differently. I ended up with a little paint on the top of my shoes, and somewhere along the way I stepped in a glob of paint. It went downhill from there, but I just kept wiping the mishaps on my shirt and pants which had been used like that many times before.
The disappointment came when I tried to clean up. Ronald told me to pour the excess paint back into the can. That went sort of okay. I swiped the rim and the edges with my fingers, put what I could into the can, and wiped the rest on my pants. I knew that I needed to clean as much of the paint out of the fluffy roller as possible.
Now I’m a firm believer in using the gifts the Good Lord gave me, so I proceeded to squish the paint out of the roller using nature’s own spatula. I carefully ran my hand down the roller while trying to hold on to the slippery rascal with the other hand. The picture above shows some of the results.
I’m not quite sure how it is done properly without a mess, but the mess was fun anyway. I washed my hands and the paint pan pretty well.
I thought.
After shucking my shoes outside, I hurried myself into the shower where I scrubbed my fingernails with a brush. All was well in my world.
Until this morning. I looked over and wondered what in the world was on my pretty blue print shower curtain. Apparently I needed to scrub up a little more outside before entering the house. But perhaps, if our house is raided some time in the future for my right wing political rants and I have disappeared, they will have a viable fingerprint in plain sight!
But all in all, I guess it’s okay. I have been wanting a new shower curtain. This gives me an excuse.
Then I got to thinking. How many times in life do we do things our way instead of the right way? How many times do we plunge headlong into a mess of our own making, cause damage, then shrug off the ugly consequences?
So here’s some words of wisdom for the day. “Whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
Romans 7:21 talks about me for sure! “So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me!”
But here’s the good part. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
I’d like to say the painting is the last mess of the week, but I am cooking date bars and oatmeal raspberry bars tomorrow. Maybe they’ll turn out okay, but there will be a mess – guaranteed!
