Celebrate Life with Sacrifice

Strange thought, right? It may not make sense to you, but it does to me. Celebrate synonyms include honor and bless. I think we can honor or bless the life of another by sacrifice and compromise.

Take our new shed for instance.

Anyone who knows me knows I like modern. I had another shed picked out. Its simple lines appealed to me. The price did not appeal to Ronald. Being the shopper he is, he chose this barn door rustic style in a blink of an eye.

Rather than argue, I decided that having a new shed that wasn’t leaking was enough. Having a new shed with a floor that I wasn’t afraid I’d step through was what mattered. Having a shed to store his lawn mower and garden supplies was the most important thing. Once we get the ramp put in, I will be content.

Making Ronald feel good about his choice was the right choice for me. Blessing our lives with peace without controversy or anger is much more important than having a modern building in the back yard. Even if I am biting my tongue when he insists on painting the trim white is not worth an argument. (Don’t worry. He never reads my blogs!)

Don’t get me wrong. No woman should be a doormat and always give in to every whim or decision a man makes! But seriously, ask yourself before or during any disagreement, is this really worth losing your peace over? Most times, the answer is no.

The term sacrifice also has synonyms of forfeit, renounce, or surrender. My doctors would all admonish me to celebrate (and extend) life by sacrificing carbs, sweets, diet drinks, and anything tasty. Some friends who are health conscious encourage me to celebrate life by sacrificing my time with faithful workouts. I recognize the sage advice given by both groups, and I try my best to follow their wise words with sacrificial actions.

Another synonym for celebrate is to suffer. ‘Nuf said!

But a glorious celebration of life will be our eternal life that we can receive because of the sacrifice of the Holy Lamb of God, Jesus!

“Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from His love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interest, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminals’ death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. ”    Philippians 2:1-11
