Angels Unaware

Ronald was outside about a month ago when a scrawny, scraggly kitten started following him around the yard. It was very vocal, so I assumed that meant it was hungry. I found some food and brought it a bowl of water before we started trying to figure out where it came from. I texted a neighbor who did a neighborhood group text. No one had lost the little vagabond. Where on earth did this kitten come from?

If you’ve read my blogs, you know I’m not an animal person. I don’t abuse them. I just don’t want one around. Though this little one was cute and needy, it didn’t need me. I prayed that it belonged to someone in the area who would claim it by morning.

The next day, Debbie was out working in her yard. Another neighbor, Steve, came from his house talking on the phone, trying to get a friend to take the kitten who was following him. The kitten immediately went to Debbie and started to pester her. Debbie walked to her back door with the kitten still close to her heels. Her husband, Bill, looked out the door and asked Debbie who she had there. Debbie said, “Muffin.” Bill opened the door and invited the stranger in.

Who says there is no ‘love at first sight’? It was a match we all believe was made in heaven.

Muffin became an instant member of their household. Because of health issues, Bill is mostly house bound. The kitten, with its sweet and snuggly personality, has been a bright spot in their home. It is a true friend and companion who has ministered to the couple in ways they never imagined possible.

Sometimes, people think things happen just by chance. As believers, we find our daily lives guided by God’s loving hand, and He doesn’t make mistakes. I believe He knew this kitten needed a good home. He knew Bill and Debbie needed this very pet to brighten their lives.

What instances of ‘divine appointments’ have occurred in your life? Look for God’s blessings and be thankful.

Kitten or angel, Muffin is a gift from heaven.
