Messes by KB
I am going to give words of wisdom today. The craziness is me, the Wisdom is from God!
From the picture above, let it be said I really get into my work. I had already scrubbed my hands 5 different times!
Colossians 3:23 – “Whatever you do, do it heartily as unto the Lord” probably doesn’t really apply to my messes – I mean my art. I may not consciously be doing it as unto the Lord, but I think He gets a kick out of me being creative.
After all, I am His messterpiece, I mean masterpiece. As He paints my life with colorful strokes of experiences, I just help the process along. Ephesians 2:10 says we are God’s masterpiece. I’m not sure my dirty pour would qualify as one of the good things He planned, but it is good fun!
Tip 1 – Rethink your work area before beginning. I should have put a drop cloth on the floor first, but honestly! I didn’t intend to have paint splatters on the floor all around the work table.

Luke 14:28-30 doesn’t talk about painting preparation, but spiritual life skills. “Suppose one of you want to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you and say, “This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.”
Reading the Bible regularly is a great foundation to keep the messy spills and troubles from permanently soiling your life.
Tip 2 – If a dirty pour appears to have a bad spot on it, there are ways to overcome that. Some are more effective than others. I was trying to jazz up one of the more boring of the dirty pours. I dipped my fingers in paint and flicked extra color onto the canvas. The canvas looked better, but my cabinet behind the canvas took a pretty good hit as well. Not such a good idea.
Another canvas needed more paint. I had run out of thinned paint, so I poured straight acrylic on, followed by thinner. I wallered it around a bit, and truthfully, it turned out kinda nice! It’s okay to fail and try it again and again until the results are satisfactory.
It’s the same with our spiritual walk. We don’t get it right the first time. Galatians 6:9 tells us, “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.”

Tip 3 When you try to fix a dirty pour and it still doesn’t look right, scrape off the excess paint, spray the canvas with water until most all the paint is off, and let it dry and try again another day!

That reminds me of a couple of wonderful promises of God. His mercies are new every morning, and He removes our transgressions as far as the East is from the West. My philosophy is it’s okay to wait to clean up my mess until a new morning when I hope He gives me energy to clean up the white tile floors.
I love every opportunity to do dirty pours. I could even bring my mess – I mean my supplies – to your house! Sound like a plan?
I didn’t think so.
Blessings!
