Messes, Mayhem, and ME!

This was written several weeks ago. I’m just now recovering and trying to finish this blog!

It’s crazy how much I love to make messes! At least this time, I can blame it on God. Whoop! Whoop! I get to do crafts for Kids’ Camp at church. We are going to have so much fun! I just hope the parents will forgive me when their kids come home with paint splatters all over them.

But back to my personal messes and mayhem. I am trying all the crafts ahead of time. Mayhem and messes today mean no messes or mayhem next week. And I have delusions of grandeur.

Me and ol’ Pinterest are good friends – except when I can’t make a project look anywhere near like what it shows! But I can’t put the blame entirely on Pinterest. It’s the fine print and measurements that trip me up. The nice thing about messing up, there’s always another craft I can substitute. I just have to figure where the mistake started and recalibrate!

In this case, I was off to a good start.  The pattern I copied was going to be the perfect size for the boards I ordered for the string crosses. When I got the boards, I realized they were too thin to attach the push pins I would use, and the boards were too hard anyway. What you see above is part of the reworked idea. I painted the boards gold to which we will attach dirty pour crosses (making a wonderful mess in the process).  My table has to be scraped of its gold layer, but it is used to my messes. No problem. I immediately wiped the gold paint from my white tile floor, so all is well. The crewel thread saved for centuries has now been repurposed to tie through the boards.

The other craft I am still trying to figure out is painting tiles for coasters. Somewhere along the way I missed the memo that the tiles were supposed to be glazed. Instead, I ended up with 75 unglazed tiles. I tried using what I call my blob and swirl method with acrylic paint. Even using my favorite colors, it turned out less than … let’s just say it was gosh awful! I have until next Thursday to figure it out when that craft is on the agenda. The local artist with a kiln told me just to chuck the whole idea and start over. No way! I’m going to wrestle with this idea until I get the best of it!

All in all, there will be NO mayhem on my watch! Said no teacher ever!

I’m sure I’ll have a major disaster or two during the week, but there will be more than enough grins and giggles to make it worthwhile.

Afterglow. I did have a blast, I was the only one to spill paint on the floor, and some of the crafts I planned didn’t happen because of time constraints. But I’d do it again in a heartbeat! Psalm 37:4 says, “Be happy with the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” I hope He lets me do this again! Too much fun!

Blessings KB
