Mess or Masterpiece?

God is the ultimate Creator. Me, not so much.

But my creativity knows no bounds! After putting away my art supplies this morning, I noticed the ramp in the garage and the wall by the inner door were sporting a new, blue, polka-dotted design. My shirt and pants will never be the same. It will take weeks for the grass to recover from the coating of paint that landed as I creatively spun the large canvas dirty pour. The plastic chair I use for all my crafts has a new layer of lovely colors. The garage floor and the card table resemble the dirty pours that are still drying, but I don’t mind the drips. It makes the garage floor much prettier in my estimation. At least I didn’t rest the wet canvas on Ronald’s lawnmower this time.

Today’s dirty pours ended up with really cool designs but butt-ugly colors! I still can’t figure how a brilliant, blue metallic paint ended up a dirty gray color. The nice part of my creative work is – it doesn’t matter if it’s a total screw up! I just mix some more paints and have another go at it!

If I ever were to have an art business, I would call it, “Messes by KB.”

The thing is, I love the mess I make as much as I do the art. Something about flinging paint, ending up with it everywhere – what can I say? It thrills my soul! I can remember loving to make mud pies when I was a little girl. Getting dirty was always wonderful! Maybe I’m entering my second childhood! Nah. I’ve always been this messy when the opportunity arose.

“God looked on all He made and indeed, it was very good.”

I think He did and does have fun being the Creator, but He doesn’t make messes. Sometimes, I mess up God’s wonderful plans and muddle the relationships or situations but through each problem, God continues to make me in His image, a new creation in Christ.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.        Ephesians 2:10 NLT
