It’s All in the Details

Anyone who has read my blogs knows that I am of the firm opinion that bugs DO NOT BELONG in my house!!! I do what it takes to rid creatures flying, scurrying, or camping anywhere inside my abode with every spray, powder, bug bait, or swatter known to man!

However, today I was saddened by a beautifully designed creature lying dead on my bedroom floor. Of course, I was glad it was dead as I am pretty sure it was a yellow jacket. I tried to take its picture, but I couldn’t get a clear pose with my phone – which like me, has seen better days.

I was scared by the insect’s presence, but I was intrigued by its beauty.

Its wings, legs, and antennae were remarkable with distinct colorings and textures. Its body parts were magnificently and intricately patterned. The top and underside had incredible markings.

I wonder if, like our finger prints, each insect has a unique design within the same species.
Why would God make such a small creature so ornate? After all, it is very small, seemingly of little value or in the wide scheme of things, rather unimportant.

Except – I think God had and has a good time making His creations with great care and detail.

Some things He made have amused observers forever! When the platypus was first seen by Western scientists, they were sure someone had sewn together several animals as a joke. I think God has a hysterical sense of humor. (Anyway, that’s what I think when I look in the mirror!)

Sometimes, I have to wonder at God’s color schemes. Some birds have colors that I would NEVER put side by side! I’ll just trust God on that one because if creation had been up to me, most things would have been blue or green. Very boring, come to think of it.

I also have the opinion that God is still creating, adding new creatures to good ol’ planet earth to boggle some egotistical scientist’s closed mind. And just maybe, draw that brilliance toward the Great Creator!

I don’t know a lot, but I do know God is awesome! Enjoy His creations!

The Complete Jewish Bible translates Psalm 104:24 this way. “What variety there is in Your works, Adonai! How many of them there are! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creations.”

The image above is really cute, isn’t it? As I tried to find a picture of a real yellow jacket, I kept shivering, so I chose the cartoon version!  What a wimp!
