Something that Matters
I’m still bothered by the lady at the pool. When I asked what she did before retirement, she replied, “I never did anything that mattered.”
I posted a picture of Mom yesterday. It was obvious from the outpouring of lovely notes and all the ‘likes’ that Mama lived a life of purpose. At 92, there are many people she has influenced. She taught Sunday school high schoolers for years. That in itself deserves accolades! She led Bible quiz teams, Home Extension groups, and no telling what else.
Like all of us, she’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but she did her best. She used the talents, skills, and God-given personality traits to bless and help others.
I follow Chad R. Allen, a great writing coach and his friend, Jonathan Milligan, a digital marketing guru. Both are believers in the philosophy that your message matters. I try to keep their encouragement and wise words in mind as I struggle to share my message.
Not that I have trouble thinking of things to write. I just sometimes wonder if what I am saying really matters. Then I have to give myself a good set down.
First off – my writing is for me. The blogs are my catharsis. The books are an opportunity for my imagination to run amuck, I mean, flourish.
Secondly – I write about things I have learned or continue to learn hoping they will be taken to heart so the reader won’t have to go through similar “Life Lessons 101” classes.
I hope that my writing makes the reader feel very smart – Yes, you are smarter than the average 69 year old! I want to make people laugh or at least chuckle. My readers may be challenged, but I pray they will be blessed and drawn closer to God.
And that folks, is something that really matters!
Work hard and cheerfully at all you do, just as though you were working for the Lord and not merely for your masters, remembering that it is the Lord Jesus Christ who is going to pay you, giving you your full portion of all He owns. He is the One you are really working for. Colossians 3:23-24. TLB

Wanna hear a joke? I can tell two really well if I get a running jump at them! My family just groans at that question, so I guess I’ll save you the torture!
