Creative Disasters Take 3
Well Mercy!
After working about three hours yesterday on the “I must go down to the sea again” sign, I was up at 5 this morning and worked until about 10. The inside was still not what I wanted but since it can pop out, I am going to have a friend help with the calligraphy. I measured the hangers in the back and drew tiny x’s where to put the nails in the exact place on the wall. I hammered the nails appropriately but didn’t hang the sign. First, I hot glued the flamingo beside the cruise picture and carefully leveled it vertically. I then glued the shells artistically around the frame. I placed the sign on the wall, stood back, and gloated about my success. Next, I started hot glueing shells to the wall.
It was then the calamity befell my beautifully constructed vignette! I had turned my back to reach for another shell when the sign crashed to the floor and shattered a number of my favorite shells.
I did not use my plumbing language or swear like a sailor. I tease about doing that, but I don’t use bad language except for a few little naughty words. I did not scream in anger. That hurts my throat. I did not fall in a heap and weep my eyes out. There is no way I could have gotten up from the floor, and I only cry happy tears. Good grief! I didn’t even pout all day! Sometimes, I have to resign myself to my fate and say, oh well.
I am still trying to figure what life lesson I am supposed to learn from the process I have gone through with this sign. Romans 5 talks about glorying in tribulation and its resulting benefits. I’m pretty sure I’m missing something there!
Seriously.
Here’s the real passage which is Truth we can all strive for.
Since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith in His promises, we have real peace with Him because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. For because of our faith, He has brought us into this place of highest privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to actually becoming all that God has in mind for us to be. We can rejoice when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us – they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady. When that happens, we are able to hold our heads high no matter what happens and know that all is well, for we know how dearly God loves us. We feel this warm love everywhere within us because God has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love. Romans 5:1-5
