Fib, Family Legend, or Fluke
My comedic heroine is Jeanne Robertson. She tells a story about sending her husband, whom she calls Left-Brain, to the store for ingredients for a 7-Up Cake. The whole routine was about him misinterpreting a grocery list. By listening to her humorous tale, you will understand this blog.
We recently went to see Amanda and her family in Louisville. Silas, her 12-year-old, planned to cook several things during our visit. The first morning, the boys, Granddaddy, and I went to the store. All the boys went one way. I headed out alone with my little list that Silas made for me. He knows his Grammie loves key lime and planned to make lime bars to celebrate our arrival.
We went to a huge Walmart nearby, and I searched diligently for the listed items. I found the box of graham crackers and placed it in the basket. I added two cans of sweetened condensed milk followed by three packages of cream cheese. The next ingredients were four limes, but I added a few extra. You can’t make that sort of thing too tart for me!
After asking the location of the coconut flakes, I headed that direction. Suddenly, the lightbulb in my brain went, “Bling! Bling! Clunk! Houston, we have a problem! What in the world does Silas need with five bags of coconut? Does he mean real coconuts? How will we ever get them open?”
I looked again at the list then realized his intention. The left side numbering was to indicate each ingredient needed, not the total of each item.
When I first heard Jeanne’s routine, I thought she or her writers had made up a really great story, but a total fib.
Sometimes a good but rather mundane story gets turned into a family legend. Some of my family think if you are going to tell a story, you may as well make it a little more interesting with an added embellishment or two.
But I swear, this is the truth, but it has to be a fluke. I am not even left-brained!

In the Bible, the book of Proverbs is rich in practical wisdom. It contains amazing PROMISES for those who choose to follow God.
God gives common sense – obviously more to some than others of us! God’s Holy Spirit helps us understand the Word of God. When we draw closer to God, we will be able to use the insight He gives to gain more knowledge. Then He helps us apply that wisdom to our lives and situations. As a result, we are able to help others and God is glorified. In the process, we are also promised many blessings including protection, guidance, consistency in successful decision making, joy, and fulfillment.
Sounds like a winner to me!
