Inner Beauty

I love this old song by Albert Orsborn.

“Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me,
All His wonderful passion and purity,
O thou Spirit divine, all my nature refine,
Till the beauty of Jesus be seen in me.”

Though I’m not too crazy about the refining part, it’s part of every Christian’s journey.

The picture above shows an interesting shell with an ornate pattern. In real life, it is a very dull color. However, the inside is a magnificent iridescent ivory that speaks a valuable lesson to us all.

In 1 Samuel 16,  God says He doesn’t look on the outward appearance but looks on the heart of man. Sometimes, I wonder how He actually sees me. I think He sees my redeemed heart rather than what I see as my reality. He looks on me and my circumstances with a heart of love, seeing the possibilities of my future as I put my trust in Him.

It doesn’t matter if my old lady reality keeps rearing its decrepit self and I keep aging with all its trials and pains, God says not to lose hope and not to fear. The important part of my life, the inner spirit which will live through eternity, is being renewed day by day.

As I was trying to take a picture of the inside of the shell, turning on a light to illuminate it made a drastic difference in revealing its beauty. As I draw closer to Jesus, the Light of the world, I pray His beauty will be seen in me.
