Caveat Emptor

Here are my words of wisdom for the day – Let the Buyer Beware!

Usually, I am not much of a bargain shopper. But I am sometimes a cheapie.

When we were in Louisville recently, I wanted to pick up some inexpensive washcloths so I didn’t ruin Amanda’s nice ones as I removed my eye makeup. I grabbed the cheapest pack off the shelf. Even if the cloths were super cheap, they were sort of a mistake. The fabric was thin and the edges needed repair even before I used them. They worked for the purpose but will not stand the test of time or use.

Have you ever bought a shirt and the buttons started coming off after the second wash? Have you ever rued buying a cheap cut of meat that ended up tough or fatty? Used cars are infamous for their questionable condition and may cost more in the end than a new one would have.

As I secured the edges of each cloth with my sewing machine, I grumped at myself and thought about the old saying,” You Get What You Pay For”. Then I realized some old sayings are only true in certain situations. As I thought about what I could learn from the experience, I remembered the Truth I learned long ago.

Romans 5 gives a comprehensive look at Jesus’ attitude toward us. His sacrificial death paid for the sins of man. We don’t do anything to deserve His salvation. I didn’t pay for it. It is a gift. Romans 5:8 says God demonstrates His love for us in that Jesus, the Messiah, died on our behalf while we were still sinners.

Along with salvation and freedom from the penalty of sin, there are extra benefits listed in that chapter. I am simply going to list the perks.

Peace    Grace     Hope of experiencing God’s glory      God’s love in our hearts    His Spirit dwelling in us in the midst of trials   Freedom from God’s anger at our sins    Ability to be counted righteous before a Holy God    Eternal life in heaven

Those are certainly wonderful blessings. As we approach the Easter season, let’s take time to think of Jesus’ gift to us and be grateful.

Blessings
