Fight, Train, Teach!

Today’s blog is how to fight for your children’s future. Please don’t stop reading even if your children are grown or you don’t have any kids at all. It is slightly longer than other blogs, but please read and consider the truths. Please consider passing it along.

Adults influence many children throughout life, either directly or indirectly. Children, yours or those who are total strangers, watch your treatment of the clerk in the checkout line. They watch your road rage or lack of the same. They mimic your speech, habits, and lifestyle.

The picture above is of a pecan that was not formed properly because it was still cradled in its shell long after it should have emerged full and whole.

Here is a question for those with personal influence on children. What are you doing FOR your children that they should be doing for themselves? What skills are you failing to teach that will keep them from being successful adults? How are you enabling your children?

Tasks as simple as cleaning up the kitchen, taking care of their laundry, or refilling their own drinks at the supper table are small steps to being able to handle adult obligations. Organizational skills and time management should be modeled and taught. Teach them basic home repair skills or find someone to pass those skills along.  What about basic cooking skills? Proper money management taught at an early age and your own wise earning, saving, and spending will insure long term prosperity. Don’t forget to teach the basic tenet of tithing on which all success rests!

Take time to check what your children are learning at school and refute liberal propaganda! Teach them how to do math without a calculators! Teach them cursive and the basics of presenting their thoughts correctly in writing and in speech. Model reading for fun. I’m a firm believer in providing a book list and having children earn money for reading each book and discussing what they learned or the take away lessons. Perhaps reading some of the classics like Animal Farm would have prevented some of the graft and elitism that is destroying our land. (Yeah, this is a political rant. Surprise, surprise.)

But here’s the most important thing you can pass onto the children under your influence – God loves them, Jesus died for their sins, and the Holy Spirit can indwell, instruct, and guide them through life. The Bible is still relevant in every way in our task of teaching children and for your family to live a truly blessed life.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

Focus on the Family, Kathy Koch, and many others give invaluable help to raise Christian children and be godly parents. Please listen to podcasts such as Mama Bear Apologetics to get the ammunition to fight the war against evil.

Proverbs 22:6 says to train a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he won’t depart from it.

Training and discipline is constant. Deuteronomy 6:7 tells us to teach children diligently, talk when you are sitting around, when you are walking by the way – doing everyday things, at bedtime, and when you wake up.

Check out my friend’s blog – theopendoornest.com – where she shares her experiences and wisdom she has gained in her young life as she as raised her own children and those under her care as a houseparent for WinShape which is a Chick-fil-A sponsored foster home. She and her husband are amazing!

Please commit yourself to parenting with God’s wisdom so your children will grow up God’s way!

Blessings
