Forgot What?
Some people call them Senior Moments. I call them Daily Occurrences.
I don’t want anyone to be hurt or offended by this post. Dementia and Alzheimers are very real, extremely sad, and devastating conditions. As we often live past our death-due-date, more maladies assail our bodies and our minds. Since those sicknesses seem to run in our family, I am aware of the heartache involved.
That being said, I often laugh as I talk to myself all the way from the kitchen to the bedroom. If I don’t list what I’m going back there for, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll forget! Even as I write this, I remember that I forgot to take my afternoon pills before I sat down. Maybe since I’m writing it down, I’ll remember when I get up.
Anyway. I am a firm believer in old wive’s tales, traditional and herbal medicines, and folk curatives. Since Ronald and I are both blundering toward the forgetful side of life, I decided to check out what Dr. Internet had to say to see what miraculous cures I could find. I made a list of items to include in our diet to improve our memory and another list to boost my metabolism. We are already taking Turmeric which was recommended for brain health by a real doctor. I promptly forgot what exactly was on each list and where I placed the home remedy prescriptions.
Tonight, I was spicing up my chicken salad with heavy doses of rosemary and sage.
“What are you adding that for?” asks Ronald.
At that point, I lost it. I giggled. I snorted. I guffawed. “I’m not sure,” says I, “but I think it’s to help my memory!”
As I write the story, it isn’t as funny as it was at the time. Oh well.
Here is something worth remembering!
I recall the many miracles He did for me so long ago. Those wonderful deeds are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about them. O God, Your ways are holy. Where is there any other as mighty as You? You are the God of miracles and wonders! You still demonstrate Your awesome power. Ps 77:11-14 TLB
Blessings KB
PS I have been out of my chair twice since I began this blog and forgot my pills both times! Argh!!!
