Power Tool Enlightenment
I about had me a “Hey, y’all! Watch this!” moment. I finally figured out how to use the electric stapler I bought – that is, I actually took time to read the directions. At that moment, I wondered what it would feel like to have a staple go into my finger. Needless to say, I didn’t dwell on that thought very long or very sincerely!
After stapling an old scrap of material around the piano bench, I moved on to repurposing a small shelf that had been languishing in a plastic tub for twenty years.
I love power tools. I’m a firm believer in having the proper machinery or even hand tools to help do specific jobs. I may not use an item stashed beside my sewing machine for months but when I need it, my handy dandy helper is there for me. My garage also has a variety of tools that I have acquired through the years.
Today’s tool of choice was a little sander. Bless its heart, it lasted about three minutes before it started spewing little plastic pieces across the work surface. Upon autopsy, I discovered an important plastic disc inside had hardened, cracked, and rendered the tool useless.
Yep, today’s object lesson.
The Bible talks in many places about the hardness of the heart that makes us immune to God’s voice and blocks His loving guidance and blessings in our lives. Like the hardened disc that made the sander unusable, we become ineffectual in the Kingdom if we harden our hearts against the Word and Spirit of God. Our lives become broken disasters instead of what might have been.
Please let these verses speak to you today.
I will give them hearts that respond to Me. They shall be My people and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with great joy. Jeremiah 24:7 TLB
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23 NLT
