Eclectic to Bubba

My youngest, Missy, calls my decorating style ‘coastal eclectic – heavy on the eclectic’. In one guilt trip and a click of a BUY NOW  button, my decorations have moved from Coastal Eclectic to Bubba Chic.

No, I’m not hanging a set of deer horns over the fireplace. Much worse. (Sigh.)

We rented a house in Tennessee over Thanksgiving. Ronald and the Clarks had a great time playing bumper pool on a small, round table that was placed in a side nook of the great room. On the way home, he expressed the desire to get one.

“Well no!” says I as I expressed my opinion. Or maybe I said something along those lines. We finished our journey with me on a prolonged guilt trip.

As I pondered his request, I decided to reconsider. He is awfully old (but I am not). He needs something to do to entertain himself that is low impact. Since he can’t garden this time of year, pool would be a great time waster.

I studied some options and chose a regular pool table instead of bumper pool. I measured the dimensions out by counting the tiles on our floor with five feet on every side. With a wee bit of rearranging the furniture, it would work. I made the choice.

I was going to keep it a Christmas secret. I was able to do that for about 14 hours. Not bad considering my track record. Ronald was thrilled.

I was not thrilled, but relatively resigned. I had asked forgiveness for my rudeness to Ronald. To God, I had to ask for forgiveness for my naughty words.  But since I had made penance, all was well.

UNTIL!

The package was delivered. I had envisioned a one dimensional object without considering a three dimensional monstrosity that will totally overpower my  Coastal Eclectic decor! Mercy!

The Bible always has words of wisdom – which I usually read after the fact. Leviticus 19:35 is a stretch and totally out of context, but it speaks to me anyway. “You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measures of length or weight or quantity.” OOPS!

Final thought.  Aren’t we all glad God designed the world and everything in it? Can you imagine if I had been in charge of decorating the world and the universes beyond?
