Scars and Blessings
I am not the most coordinated person. Never have been.
I used to sew costumes for various musicals and shows. Each time I did, I ended up with at least one large burn from the iron. Before my skin became so mottled and wrinkled, I could point to various burn scars and remember the shows that precipitated the scar. Though it hurt at the time, it usually didn’t slow me down or cause me not to enjoy the creative process.
This week’s party ended up with me having a burn from using the oven. These days, it takes a while to heal, but I wouldn’t trade a scar free hand for the fun we had. The pain is worth the blessings of the day. I will heal eventually. As Mama is fond of saying, ‘This too will pass.’
As I was preparing this blog, I was thinking how women bear the scars of childbirth but rejoice in the wonderful gift of motherhood. What little boy doesn’t have a scar or two that hurt at the time of the injury but added to his roguish looks or awesome reputation?
There are wounds everyone carries that leave scars no one can see. Those scars don’t bring back good memories. They bring embarrassment, emotional pain, regret, shame, or distress.
Many of our scars cause mental stress and unhappiness throughout our lives. It is a mindset that never heals without help from God. I am also a firm believer in seeking Christian counselors who can help you find a healthier lifestyle.
Jesus Christ our Lord suffered. He knows our needs and cares for us because of His sacrifice and great love for us. Read Isaiah 53.
I am no counselor, but I do know the ultimate Counselor and Healer. God’s Holy Word and His Spirit can bring peace that can only come from Him. Here are a few promises you may find enlightening and uplifting.
He heals the brokenhearted, binding up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 TLB
Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed. I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 4:10 TLB
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank Him for His answers. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 TLB
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our inner strength in the Lord is growing every day. These troubles and sufferings of ours are, after all, quite small and won’t last very long. Yet this short time of distress will result in God’s richest blessing upon us forever and ever! So we do not look at what we can see right now, the troubles all around us, but we look forward to the joys in heaven which we have not yet seen. The troubles will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 TLB
Here is my prayer for you today.
And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts, living within you as you trust in Him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love; and may you be able to feel and understand, as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how deep, and how high His love really is; and to experience this love for yourselves, though it is so great that you will never see the end of it or fully know or understand it. And so at last you will be filled up with God himself. Ephesians 3:17-19 TLB
