Pennies on the Dollar

I’m sort of on a rant today. Yeah well, it’s a total rant on behalf on musicians everywhere.

I always heard if you want to be a musician, keep your day job. I don’t believe that. There are people who are talented enough to make a full time career of sharing that talent. Some popular genres and ‘music’ celebrities must have some outstanding PR people is all I’m sayin’, but that is not today’s rant.

Back in the day, my girls would get upset when I didn’t want them copying a tape of their favorite singers’ songs. Either you bought the tape with your own money or did without. The musicians deserved the revenue.

In my recent health trials, I have depended on the music of others to calm my soul. According to my ‘son-in-law, the doctor’, (remember that comedic skit from way back when?), the music is positively affecting my parasympathetic system.

I can screw up modern technology in a heartbeat. Despite my inept skills, I have been miraculously downloading music from ITunes.

UNTIL!!!!

I read several articles on how little the musicians get from these downloading sites. Look up the statistics for yourself! They get fraction of a penny for their musical efforts!

It is NOT right!!!

In this crazy world where the musicians can’t get out to perform and earn a living, they need proper recompense for their talents.

As a result of my new found knowledge, I am clearing out music that I did not directly purchase directly from the musician’s website. I will legitimately purchase downloads to those groups who have ministered to me.

Expensive? Maybe a little. I figure it this way…if I can pay $30 to feed my digestive system for stuff that is here today and gone tomorrow, I can pay a few bucks to nourish my parasympathetic system that soothes my soul for days!
