God’s Creativity and Arachnophobia
This morning’s sky was an artist’s dream. The plant Mom bought was a nightmare for anyone with arachnophobia.
Seriously! God’s creativity is AMAZING! But it also shows He has a serious sense of humor.
I was looking for plants for the yard at Home Depot and invited Mom to go along for the ride. When we take Mama anywhere, she thinks she has to buy something. Anything. Mints, socks, another tube of lotion. It’s retail therapy for the elderly, I guess.
She decided she wanted some succulents for her windowsill. Out of all the plants that were displayed, she chose one with a giant spiderweb completely covering the spokes that radiated from the center. I stood there trying to pick off the spiderweb and trying unsuccessfully to talk her into buying something different.
She picked up another plant. “I think it’s supposed to be like that, Kara Beth,” she said.
“Surely not!” But then I read the name of the plant – Sempervivum Arachnoideum.
Surely, God has a funny spin on creation!
Spiders make me shiver when I even think of them! But – they are amazing engineers and artists. They are warriors and invaders who infiltrate every space imaginable and claim their territory with persistence. Their weapons frustrate the homeowner who repeatedly pulls down webs made with precision and speed. The web material itself amazes the most brilliant scientists who try to duplicate its tensile strength and properties.
Hmm – Maybe I’ll try to take on some of the spider’s good qualities into my life. Persistently infiltrating my space with God’s love would be a good thing. Being able to repeatedly recover from every kind of onslaught and still want to be creative would surely be a powerful attribute to add to my character arsenal.
Hmm – You know those newly discovered species? I wonder if God is still creating new things because He is having fun coming up with different designs. Or is He just trying to get people’s attention who think they know it all?
God makes amazing, unique creations. Take a minute to appreciate His artistry!
Blessings
