Shortcuts, Time, and Toilets

Have you ever taken a shortcut to speed your way to places only to find the road riddled with road construction and detours? Join the club.

Have you ever been in a time crunch and still need to put on makeup? Have you ever had the mascara applicator flip from your hand, across your nose, through your hair, down your shirt, and on to the white floor? Thank goodness my shirt was dark, and the floor is tile!

Yesterday, I felt wonky from just after I woke up to the end of the day. I wasn’t fractious, just anxious. My eyes didn’t seem to be focusing well at all, but I had stayed up the night before reading until way past my bedtime. I never can put a book down without finishing it. Not so wise. I thought my eyes were tired and not working right for that reason.

As I tried to remove my contacts, I realized the truth of it. I had somehow failed to put my contact in the right eye. It was nowhere to be found.

Here’s my wisdom for the day.

Do not try to save time and put on contacts while sitting on the toilet.

Though it seemed like a good idea at the time, I see the error of my ways. I was trying to multitask – never a good choice for me!

I remember thinking I had put the contacts in correctly. Like throwing out the baby with the bathwater, I inadvertently tossed the contact with the contact solution into the nearby shower floor. Or I assume that’s what happened. And you know what assuming does to a person.

I need to follow my usual patterns of behavior and put my contacts in while sitting at my vanity. From now on, I will only be using my toilet time for its proper purpose. As for the other listed problems in this blog, they will probably happen again. Oh well.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.

One of my favorites is Ecclesiastes 3:11.

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted the seeds of eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
