Checkups of the Heart
I went to a heart doctor today for a checkup concerning the damage when I blew out my lungs with clots. He was trying to decide if I needed more testing. After finding that I had heart problems in my family, he started listing other factors that would make him initiate more tests.
“Family history, obesity,”
“I love you too,” I interrupted.
“And let’s see, you are,”
“Sixty-eight.”
“Right. Sixty-eight. Like I said, you’ve got a few miles on you.”
I laughed. He didn’t know how close he had come to getting slapped bald-headed! If he had said, “You’ve packed on a few pounds,” instead of talking about miles, he would a been in a whole heap a hurt!
Seriously, he was a nice guy – as doctors go.
Which brings me to the sermon of the day. Surprise, surprise.
My spiritual heart needs a spiritual checkup more often than I like to admit. Would it surprise you if I said on the hour, every hour? Okay, I’ll admit it. Sometimes, even more often.
Of course, my heavenly home is sure, but a fresh, cleansing dose of God’s forgiveness is necessary for my spiritual health. If you don’t believe it, read my next blog!
Anyway, I am back to my usual self. I would have said normal, but that would be stretching it a bit. I am not sure I have ever been normal in my life!
So stay tuned for a blog or two or ten a week.
Enjoy.
Blessings
