Healing Hands Take Two

Well, bless my heart! And my patience level!

I had the first draft all finished and it disappeared somewhere into cyberspace. Aggravation! And double ARGH!

Anyway.

Not being a boss except to Ronald, (hah) I didn’t understand about employees. Recently, as I lay in the hospital bed, I had many types pass through my room. I made it a point to study those that waited on my every need.

There were the gum chomping, dead eyed, fake smilers who did their jobs efficiently and moved on to the next patient without any interaction. There were the straight faced, dead eyed frowners who obviously hated the job and just wanted to get back to their phones. There were the sweet smilers whose presence filled the room with love. There were those who interacted that shared their hopes and dreams. I hope that I was able to encourage each one. There were a few that expressed dissatisfaction with the moves they had made and hoped to be moving on to the next state in the near future. I could have told them all that what they were looking for was God to fill the longing of their souls. When I got the chance, I did just that.

But overall, the majority of the staff at both the hospital and the rehab facility was outstanding. Their care, concern, good humor, and patience with me was above and beyond measure. I can’t count the times a few would play seek and find for me. My mouth guard just kept getting lost! There were so many kind, wonderful people. Not only did I feel the prayers of friends and family, I felt God’s love present through the beautiful people that helped me in my time of need.

I have to mention four in particular. One nurse would make sure I had my meds on time during her shift. She would gently rub cream on me to help slow some of my back pain. Her healing hands were a true blessing.

Her co-worker was a young man who took time to visit for a moment and tease. I pray he knows how those few minutes brightened my stay.

Another woman would come in each day to take my food order. She and a nurse tech would fuss at me gently to try to eat more. The food service woman was more to me than a worker. As we shared briefly some life issues, she mentioned she was a cancer survivor and still taking chemo. I so admired her for keeping on working during her time of pain. One day,  she knew I was emotionally struggling and gave me a hug that was straight from God! We were more than patient and worker, we were sisters in Christ.

As my knees healed and I have begun therapy, there was one particular therapist who showed me how to administer lotion to the scars to rub out some of the scar tissue. Her strong hands were gentle. She is a healer.

I want to suggest that everyone who reads this blog will look up the artwork of Nathan Greene. His medical pictures show Jesus beside nurses and surgeons. That is truly what I felt from the people I mentioned and numerous others. Blessings to them all.

Blessings to you as well!
