New Super Power

This is so cool! I woke in Recovery singing the old praise and worship song, “The Lord is good.” It’s a great, simple song, but one I haven’t thought of in a long time. The reason for the song (other than the obvious) was the machine I was hooked up to. The rhythm and a few of the song’s intervals were correctly matched by the tones sounding from the extravagant machinery.

It bleeped constantly. It may have registered my heart rate. I  don’t really know, but I found I could manipulate the machine’s tone with my breathing. Breathing a little deeper in brought the pitch up. Breathing out a little deeper allowed me to lower the pitch. Of course, I could only get a few intervals. Seconds where harder than thirds by far. Nerdy, but it kept me occupied.

So that’s my new super power-having control of technology. It was a fun and unusual power.

Nagging alert!

But the reality is, we all have control of technology.  Think about how technology influences your life and that of your family. We can turn it off and talk to our kids instead. We can use it for a power of good or evil.

I have been amazed at the technology involved with my new knees. The custom implants were made just for me according to a machine’s imaging. One of the nurses said some of the most practical modern technology was the software that instantly recorded a patient’s vitals and accessed sites that would insure the proper medications were given. There is technology involved with blood pressure machines, leg pumps to prevent blood clots, and even a machine that replaced a bed pan! How cool is that?.

The really greatest and most awesome part of the process has been the miracle of our bodies that bounce back with resilience.

Let me take that back. The greatest is the incomprehensible, eternal God who forms each of us as fearfully and wonderfully made individuals. Individuals with whom He wants to commune. Without doubt, God loves us, His creation, beyond measure. That’s the coolest part of all.
