Disney Princess Voices
Ronald has been saying for months that I speak too softly. That’s his excuse for not listening when I’m talking. I think he needs to get his sweet, old self a hearing aid!!!
We are usually the only two in the house. If I am talking, he’d better be listening! Unless I’m talking to myself which is a whole nother ballgame! In my maturity, it helps to list things orally for memory retention. In that case, he needs to listen as well since that retention memory bank is often cluttered with more serious matters.
Today Amanda agreed with her daddy about my soft speaking voice. Hmm. Since she does vocal coaching for people sent by doctors to help repair their speaking voice, she does have some expertise. She suggested that my voice has lowered since half my thyroid was removed last year.
Her explanation fit with everything else about me. If there was pressure from the growth in my thyroid, when the growth was removed, the vocal chords would naturally sag on that side.
Welcome to my world! Everything else of my body is heading south! Why would the vocal chords be any different?
She suggested that my continual coughing could also be a result of saggy, vocal chord tones. She said I needed to focus my speech to a higher position. “Think Disney Princess!” says she.
“I can do Fairy Godmother. Easy peasy.”
“Over the top, Mom,” says she with rolling eyes.
Cruella De Vil (my doppleganger) is not right for my voice, nor is Ursula.
“Snow White – I don’t think so!”
“Too airy, Mom!” says she. “Kathie Lee Gifford’s voice is okay.”
“Too Yankee sounding,” says I. “How about Paula Deen?”
“Right placement,” Amanda concedes.
“Nope, not right for me. Nice, but too Southern.”
Until I find a healthier voice, I may sound like a pre-teen boy trying to control placement. In the meantime, if you hear me talking like Cinderella, please don’t laugh or roll your eyes! If you hear Ronald responding to my voice with a crazy, Prince Charming singing version of his answer, feel free to throw something at him!

Proverbs 2 ESV
My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding … then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, delivering you from the way of evil.
