Opportunities to Learn – Again

You did know this blogging stuff is called Katharses, right? Today’s post is to remind all the sandwich generation that you are not alone. There is someone here in Georgia praying for you. This is also for all the adult children of the sandwich generation. Read the blog and get your big girl panties on! You are going to need them! Your parents are getting older by the second!

I must not have gotten the lesson right the first time. Lucky me! I got the opportunity to try it again!

There are times when I get my panties in a knot. When I don’t, I say, “Whoop! Whoop! I’ve got Trials and Frustrations 101 down pat!” Today was just such a day. (Sigh) Or Not.

After receiving a furious phone call last night, I tried my best to remain calm and pray my way through. I felt I was successful, and I had a good night’s rest. As I wakened, I prayed I would face the day with patience, peace, and wisdom.

Now isn’t that just the sweetest thing!?!

In reality, I had a smidgen of patience and a tiny portion of peace. Wisdom was on the iffy to ‘I probably flunked’ side.

I had planned to get another phone to appease the furious caller. It is her fourth or fifth since April. Though each phone has worked just fine, “It doesn’t work!”  leads me to keep the peace instead of using the good sense the Good Lord gave me. Wisdom would say, she doesn’t need a phone. My weak spine says whatever makes her happy gives me some peace.

And I tried to claim I had peace. My mind at least had the illusion of peaceful resolve. My shoulders and emotions missed the memo.

All morning, I fretted internally without realizing it. Tears threatened as I followed my plan of action. My prayers for kindness and patience bombarded heaven.

I know from the past, God doesn’t give me more than I can handle. I know God wants me to trust Him with a joyful spirit. Today I didn’t have my usual angry spirit, but joyful? Not even in the neighborhood!

Well, lo and behold! God blessed me anyway! I purchased the new phone and went to deliver it. The place was empty! They had gone to Barnstormers Restaurant and weren’t even there!

My back and neck immediately uncramped, and I smiled and sighed in relief. I had done what I needed to do without having to endure the scolding for not getting it done sooner. Is the Lord gracious or what?

My lesson of the day maybe is that even when I’m not perfect in actions or attitudes – which is always – God wants me to do my best and trust Him to finish the work.

I did say this blog is called KaraBeth’s Katharses?

Anyway, Blessings
