Cough Drop Counseling
I’ve been eating cough drops like candy to control this nasty tickle in my throat. I finally noticed that each drop had writing on the wrapper. Which leads me to the
WISDOM OF THE DAY!
Just like you can’t believe everything you read on the internet, advice from a candy or medicine wrapper is just as reliable.
Mercy!
Now I’ll grant you, some of the advice was okay. As we all look at the new year and want to make some life changes, “Don’t wait to get started” and “Dust off and get up” seemed pretty reasonable.
However!
Like some snowflake who gets offended at some innocuous comment, I got my panties in a knot over one of the statements on the Hall’s cough drop! It was a small knot, so it was okay. I got over it. I just figured some psycho-babbler had been put in charge of wrapper design.
“Inspire Envy!”
Argh! Inspire is such a beautiful word with meaningful synonyms such as hearten, embolden, and animate. Your whole body and demeanor react to that delightful word.
Envy isn’t even fun to say! Look in the mirror and say envy several times. Your nose snurls up, your lips sneer. UGLY!
So, anyway. If you want inspiration for the new year, go to a source more reliable. How about this instead?
1 Thessalonians 5:11 – Therefore encourage one another and build each other up. Or 5:14 – Encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
Sounds better than inspiring envy, don’t you think?
