Now Where Am I?
Well, Bless My Heart
My trip with Mom the other day wasn’t so bad considering. I only took a wrong turn once, and it was down a road I had always wondered where it went. And nobody honked at me even if I did kinda cut in front of a few cars a little too quickly. I really need to drive more to get more experience.
Since I sorta knew where I was going, I didn’t need a map this time, but back in the day, folded paper maps turned me every way but loose. Then came computer printed directions. How am I supposed to read the small print and drive at the same time?
Now we have a nasal-nosed GPS on my phone. Her annoying voice tells me, “Rerouting, please make a U-turn in one hundred feet. Please make a U-turn.” I expect her at any moment to shout, “Ya’ crazy old woman! Turn around!”
For a little while, I had an Australian guy giving directions which was nice. However, at crucial moments in the trip, a Swedish lady would come on and say, “i en kvarts mil sväng vänster.” We figured out the quarter mile part, and I’d scramble for the written directions on my phone until it randomly switched back to my Australian dude.
My inability to follow recipes is legendary; my inability to follow driving directions is pathetic! I’ve never been a very confident driver. Actually, I had a cop question my driving ability once when I was quite young. I was driving some teens to a Bible quiz near Chicago. I innocently made an illegal left turn and was pulled over by an officer. He politely cautioned me and sent me on my way…three times in a row. I just couldn’t figure out how to get where I needed to go without turning left!
The last time, he asked, “Where are you going?”
“Stone Church,” said I.
He impolitely responded, “Lady, you need more than church to help you!”
He was right. I do need more than church to help me. I need God’s road map, the Bible, to guide me through this life. Yes, I will make wrong turns, but if I trust in His Truth, He will guide me now and on to eternity.
Please trust God to direct you down life’s road.
How’s that for a sneaky Preachin’ Alert? Ha!
Blessings
