Christmas Cards and Easter Eggs

Words of Wisdom for Super Moms

You can’t do it all. Don’t sweat it!

Back in the day, Christmas was packed with concerts, recitals, and Christmas musicals. I was either helping directly or doing costuming. First Assembly of God in Joliet was amazing as the teams of workers and performers did multiple adult Christmas shows in addition to children’s shows. It was months’ long commitment and worth every minute!

After the first of the year, everyone focused on our exceptional Easter musical – again with large numbers of performers and background workers.

Which is my excuse, you see. Don’t you?

In the early years, I sent out a few Christmas cards, but time often got away from me. Getting shows ready and costumes made well ahead of time were activities more important to me than sending cards. I would send them after the first of the year with appropriate apologies for not sending them in a timely fashion. Sometimes, they got sent as late as Easter. After a few years of just not getting my act together with Christmas cards, I gave up. I set my priorities on musicals and sending cards went down the tubes.

What priorities do you need to set? What things that are expected that can be left by the wayside?

Don’t get me wrong. I love the Christmas cards we get. I just don’t do it. And that’s fine.

I am regifting the beautiful card drawn by my granddaughter, Jocelyn. With it, I pray you have the most beautiful, peaceful, and enjoyable Christmas season ever.

Please take time to meditate on the real reason we celebrate.

Luke 2 tells of the angels’ message to the lowly shepherds. They brought “good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” In that humble way, in the small town of Bethlehem, “a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.”

That is reason enough to celebrate!

Blessings
