Old People’s Party
Ronald and I are the neighborhood party animals. We look for any excuse to host a get together, and today is one of those days. Today’s festivity is an old people’s party.
When we moved to Georgia, we didn’t know anyone. Having the local party house is our solution to that issue. I knew we would have recitals at the house occasionally and remodeled accordingly. Our great room is perfect for hosting. We ordered tablecloths that matched our blue decor, purchased silverware, card tables and chairs, and bought dollar, glass dishes at Walmart! We were good to go. With care, we have been able to have parties with those same items for the last fourteen years.
Sometimes, we have parties with different ages. Once, we had a come and go party with our friends and friends of our children and my mom. It was a beautiful winter day, and the kids were able to play outside the entire time. We had rounded up boxes that the kids stacked for ‘snow forts’ and tore up old telephone book pages for ‘snow balls’. That’s my idea of a perfect snow scenario! The party continued throughout the day with lots of singing, laughs, food, and great camaraderie as everyone who came stayed until the end. We ended up with about one hundred people. That was the best party ever!
But one of the things that makes our parties good is the people who all chip in to help clean up at the end! How great is that?
I do have a word of wisdom I learned this very day! Don’t try to steam iron a tablecloth on a glass table. Do you know what will happen? I sure didn’t! The cloth gets sopping wet the moment the steam touches it! Who knew? I think it is condensation or something like that.
I also looked up ‘old people’s party’ online to find a picture. I saw that Urban Dictionary had a definition. I wouldn’t suggest using that source as the go-to dictionary, but they had a funny take on it.
“A party held by old people. That is people over college age. There are no drugs, sex, and most often not any dancing etc. Most of those parties are really lame all they do is sit around and eat and lots of times there’s not even any music. They should be called dinners and not parties.”
I’m pretty sure there will be no sex today, but there may be some dances of joy when the cake comes out. I love me some cake with real sugar. Some people may have to take drugs to counteract what we are eating that will upset our stomachs. Obviously the young person that wrote the definition had not attended one of my parties!

1 Peter 4:8-10 NKJV And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good steward of the manifold grace of God.
PS I did have to pass out cinnamon pills to all the diabetics who had to sample all the sweets.
