Socks, Foundations, and Herod
Several years ago when our granddaughter was first dressing herself, she got frustrated. “My freakin’ socks are all jacked up!” she cried. Coming from this little imp, we got tickled and had to agree. As we all know, having your socks on wrong can ruin your day!
The picture above shows the truth of my being out of whack, though most people have accused me of being off-kilter for years! You know how I have stated in other blogs that having your panties in a knot makes you walk funny? I guar-an-tee you! This being crooked as a dog’s hind leg really makes me walk real funny! But not funny ha-ha! Having a true plumb foundation is absolutely vital!
Have you ever been in a house that had a faulty foundation due to settling or flawed building techniques? Have you ever been lost due to faulty directions?
Since we are in the Christmas season, I have to comment on old Herod and his faulty misconceptions about the new King that was born in his territory. He didn’t have a clue because he had the wrong ideas about who this new King of the Jews was to be. Whatever Herod’s education had been, it lacked Truth – the very foundation of life.
Like many of that time and even today, Herod thought God only blessed the rich and powerful. He didn’t have a clue what the ancient texts foretold about the Messiah King. Humbly born in the unimportant city of Bethlehem, Jesus would live His life in obscurity until the time of His ministry. Like many people throughout Jesus’ life, Herod didn’t realize this King was not of this earth. His Kingdom would be a spiritual, heavenly realm where His followers didn’t have to be rich or influential. To find Him, all they had to do was believe that Jesus was the Christ, God Incarnate.
In 1Corinthians 3, Paul cautions us to build only on the real foundation – none other than Jesus Christ. Think on it and maybe examine your foundation.
