TONGUE TANGLED and POWER OF ATTORNEY
Trust me. These two things do have something in common!
Do you ever make a mistake saying something? I guarantee you! You’d better not say anything funny around my kids! You’ll hear about it for years!
Ronald was once telling Missy that he was working on cleaning the kitchen. He meant, “I have a sink full of dishes.” He actually said, “Dish full of sinkas.” She reminds him quite often of his error. Everyone got a laugh then, and the line seems to draw smiles to guffaws years later! Missy will no doubt quote it at his funeral.
If you are in the same position I am in life, you know about all the hoops you have to jump through to take care of an elderly parent. The different paperwork for retirement, Medicare and health insurance, power of attorney – the list goes on and on.
Mom had a trip to a hospital from the home back in the summer. I just now got the bills, which I called to pay via phone this morning. I was explaining to the girl in billing that I was paying for my mom. I had the authority to do her business. I meant to say, “I have the Power of Attorney.” What I said was, “I have the Power of Eternity.” We both got a laugh as I corrected my verbal faux pas. Though I’ve threatened to throttle my girls a time or two, I don’t really have power over anyone’s eternity.
Preachin’ Alert! Sorry, this is too good to pass up! I am going to give no commentary, just some verses for you to ponder.
Psalm 139:16 NLT You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in Your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
Job 14:5 NLT You have decided the length of our lives. You know how many months we will live, and we are not given a minute longer.
Hebrews 2:14 Because God’s children are human beings – made of flesh and blood – the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could He die, and only by dying could He break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.
1 Corinthians 15:22 Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.
John 3:16,17 NKJ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
So there you have the Truth of it all.
