Re-Purposing Old Stuff and Palm Trees
I have buckets of these glass beads that I have used for years in different ways. Last year, I could not get one of my Christmas trees to stand up straight. The bottom was also was too near the floor to be able to put gifts underneath.
Being the genius I am, I found an old, unused planter. I filled that sucker with these beauties and stuck my tree pole down securely. It drove my mom crazy because I left the small magnetic level attached to the tree pole to level it out until it settled into position a few days later.
Because the pot wasn’t exactly the color I was going for, I covered it with an old tablecloth. Not just any tablecloth. Blue holograms. And sparkly. Just my style!
Perfection achieved. The tree was level, was high enough, and certainly attained the level of glitteryness I require. Old tree, old pot, old fillers, old ornaments, old cloth, old lady. Whoa! Let’s leave the last part off.
Or not.
Ronald and I have gigged at a few ‘old people’ meetings around here. I play harp and piano solos, then he leads the old ones in old hymns and reads Scripture. (Seems to be a theme there!)
This is the verse I used for the front of the hymn booklet we provided from the New Living Bible translation of the Bible.
Psalm 92.
But the godly will flourish like palm trees
and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon,
for they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
They flourish in the courts of our God.
Even in old age they will still produce fruit;
they will remain vital and green.
They will declare,
“The Lord is just! He is my Rock!
So, you see? God likes old stuff too!
