The Edger, The Power Washer, The Object Lesson, and The Secret Messages!
Hey!
Hope you’ve had a great day. As for me, I am plumb wore out, as they say ‘round here!
Today wasn’t swim day, so I decided I’d get exercise by doing yard work. I guess my three days of swimming hadn’t buffed me up as much as I thought! After running the edger for an hour or so, I came in for a drink of water. My whole arm shook as I tried to pick up a glass! No lie!
Back to the edging … I should have started edging a month and a half ago when the grass started growing for the season. I didn’t, so now I am paying for my negligence. But can anyone explain why a perfectly healthy stem of grass decides to grow over my sidewalk instead of heading toward the huge bare spot not a foot from there? I can’t either.
Well, the edger is fine, but a power washer is awesome! My mom says I just like to play in the mud. Ronald just shakes his head when I get hold of a power tool. I just smile. (total truth!)
Here’s a tip if you ever have to build a sidewalk … build it a few inches higher than the surrounding earth. Here’s why I say that.
This is a great way to edge. I run the water surge along the edge of the sidewalk, softening the earth so I can pull those nasty sucker vines away from the sidewalk. My ditch for the most part flows downhill in the path I’ve created. If the sidewalk were higher I wouldn’t have to worry about the mud that keeps dirtying up my freshly power washed sidewalk! I throw the pulled up grass onto the bare spot and hope something miraculous happens.
Now I say all that to say this … I am the queen of object lessons. My girls and my church classes were always getting to learn valuable lessons from my astute observations. They (the daughters) weren’t particularly thrilled with my New Year’s object lessons that I gave and still do every year. Once, I gave them a pack of new underwear and explained that they should be as lovely and clean on the inside as they appeared on the outside. Of course, the scripture base was God doesn’t look on the outer man, He looks on the heart.
I can make an object lesson out of anything.
If you were parents of my Wednesday night class, I’d write a letter talking about my edging then explaining how much easier it is to get rid of the bad habits and attitudes of our lives when they first appear rather than waiting until those behaviors overcome our lives. I’d say God can use anything to teach us wisdom. I’d say God cares about even the little things in our lives. But since
#1 I don’t want to be politically incorrect or insensitive
#2 I don’t want to offend anyone because there may be some heathen amongst ya (I would put in a smiley face emoji at this point, but I don’t know how even though I got a new computer with a touch bar. I can find the emojis, I just can’t figure out how to copy them to a document. –insert unhappy face emoji here. So is emoji always plural as in emojis? If so, what’s the plural?)
#3 I hate to be a preachy nag (total lie!)
I’ll just say most of my blogs will have something that I am subconsciously sending secret messages to make you think. I truly won’t preach or nag, and this is the last time I’ll talk about this. (probably a lie)
Words of wisdom
Don’t wash your sandals with a pressure washer while your feet are still in them.
Don’t try to wash mud from your glasses with the edge of the water spray. Just know I won’t be practicing my harp today with the fingers that held the glasses!
Blessings
